A forerunner to Southern California development trends,
this fine residential neighborhood was built over orange groves soon after 1900.
The Victorian that looks conspicuously older at 805 S. Oakland was moved a block
from Los Robles. Most of these hefty, well-built
family
houses date from 1905-1925. The best-known local architects are represented:
Roehrig designed the fine Craftsman house at 805 S. Madison with diagonal
bracing and other structural fetishes. Eastons only Mission Revival design is
just south at 885. The Greenes are represented by 675 S. Madison and a
beautifully sited one-story bungalow, accentuated by terraced lawns, at 979 S.
El Molino.
